The Goals

GOALS ACHIEVED

GoalsApril 2005 :
The first and most important goal achieved was FLO accreditation, which was acquired for all 11 members of Du Toitskloof Winery 22 farms at the beginning of 2005.

September 2005:
A Joint Body was formed in 2005 for the Fairhills project which consists of 40 farm worker members, two farm owner representatives and one representative from the exporter.

February 2006:
Registration of the project as a legal entity and as a Communal Property Association led to its name being Fairhills Association and then a bank account for the project was opened.

June 2006:
The renovation of three Day Care Centers was targeted as the first project for Fairhills. Expanding and building new classrooms, kitchens and toilets to accommodate more children was the aim. The renovations, expansion and building started in February 2006 and was completed at the beginning of June 2006.  A total of 74.4% of children were not being exposed to early childhood development prior to primary school, now a 100% will given the opportunity to go to day care. It also created job opportunities offering 15 new permanent jobs.

Ongoing:
Secure Listings is another important goal that has to be achieved. The Co-operative Group in the United Kingdom has committed itself to the Fairhills project for the first 5 years, ensuring the sales of Fairhills wine in the UK. Other countries such as Finland and Denmark have also listed the Fairhills wine.

GOALS BEING ACHIEVED

GoalsLand:
The purchasing and cultivation of land for the Fairhills Association to enable them to become financially self sustainable, is the ultimate goal. Utilizing the land to provide an eco-tourism haven.
 
Employment:
With the expansion of the day care facilities 15 new positions were established in 2006. Training was also provided for the teachers to ensure that a high quality of care and education would be provided to the children.

The project endeavors to create more opportunities for the youth when they graduate from high school. And to create alternative employment through arts, crafts and welfare initiatives for women on the farms.

Housing:
The project aims to ensure that all producers follow national housing regulations and basic needs and that they endeavor to improve beyond that. Retirement housing projects will also be looked into for the elderly.

Education:
Financial aid for Primary and Secondary school attendees will hopefully be gained.
Fairhills would like to initiate bursary opportunities for promising students to study further in their field of interest. Adult education is also of importance for the Fairhills Association so that adults can be given the opportunity to broaden their prospects.

Retirement:
Fairhills would like to create financial opportunities for the elderly through retirement benefits, assistance with financial management. They would also like to ensure security at their accommodation and to have medical assistance at hand.
