Fairhills Fairtrade Wine

Fairhills is a Fairtrade wine project which started in South Africa, followed by partner projects in Argentina and Chile. Fairhills SA is the most established of the three projects and is a joint venture between Origin Wine, Du Toitskloof Winery and its worker community. All twenty-one participating farms from the thirteen Du Toitskloof members have been Fairtrade accredited since 2005. This allows the project to use the Fairtrade mark globally. It also makes the venture one of the largest Fairtrade projects in the world.

Fairtrade is an alternative approach to conventional trade and is based on a partnership between producers and consumers. Fairtrade offers producers a better deal and improved terms of trade. The Fairhills project is a very dynamic project in which the members (employees) have full control through the Joint Body committee. It is an 80% / 20% ratio with 40 farm worker members and 2 farm owners’ representatives.
